AINOW co-organized the panel “Who Is the Author in the Age of AI?” at the 2025 Book Fair in Skopje, on intellectual property, generative AI and the future of creativity.

On 12 May 2025, as part of the Book Fair in Skopje, AINOW co-organized the panel discussion “Who Is the Author in the Age of Artificial Intelligence?”, which opened a significant public debate on authors' rights, intellectual property and the role of human creativity in the digital era.

The event focused on the challenges generative AI brings to art, media and publishing. As co-organizers, AINOW once again underlined its commitment to opening up important topics at the intersection of technology and society.

Our president, Suad Seferi, spoke about the ethical and legal dilemmas that arise from using AI to create content. He pointed to examples from around the world, including the example of Amazon, where authors publishing a book are already required to state whether and how much of the work was created with AI. Seferi stressed that transparency and clear ethics are key if we want to build a sustainable digital ecosystem in the cultural sector.

We were honored to have Prof. Dr. Sead Xhigal, founder of AINOW and a renowned communication scholar, on the panel. He spoke about the transformation of the concept of authorship in digital culture, drawing on Umberto Eco's theory of the “open work” (Opera Aperta). According to Xhigal, AI is changing the very essence of authorship: today's author increasingly becomes an “author-DJ” who combines, curates and reworks, while the reader becomes a conditionally free interpreter, but under the strong influence of algorithms.
